Mitrany Groningen has just been established as a local Mitrany Group. The next drinks will be organised on 22 June. The next after that will be after the summer. These location for these drinks is Borrelcafé Oblomov (Poelestraat 11).
For an impression of monthly drinks in Groningen, see below.
Every local group has one or two Alumni Ambassadors, who organise drinks and other local events. In Groningen, Dwayne van Haasen and Iris van der Heijden are the Alumni ambassadors.
Dwayne van Haasen
Alumni Ambassador Groningen
I am Dwayne van Haasen, currently a master student International Relations & International Organization in Groningen, specializing in Central- and East-European Affairs. Throughout the course of my Bachelor I went on exchange in Canada, was active at IRIO's study association Clio and I was part of the Board of Directors of TEIMUN. These experiences have helped me meeting a wide range of interesting people from different disciplines and nationalities. I am not alone in this. In fact, this is very typical for students from IRIO. We have an interdisciplinary background, are diverse, open-minded, but also critically engaged in world affairs. Exactly because we all go in very divergent directions after our studies I think it would be a great opportunity to keep our network alive and to see what kind of different opportunities we have encountered after our studies. But ofcourse also to just share a drink and stay in touch with your old friends. So if you happen to be around Groningen, please stop by!
Iris van der Heijden
Alumni Ambassador Groningen
I am Iris van der Heijden, currently a master student in the double degree program of Economic Development and Growth at the Faculty of Economics here in Groningen. Next year I will go to Lund, Sweden for one year and afterwards the big people world is waiting for me. I studied obviously the BA. IRIO and also the BSc. Economics and Business Economics, besides my studies I have always been active in boards and committees. I have not been involved with CLIO much during my time as IRIO student, but I have build great connections with my fellow peers. This connection and network helped me in Groningen to find my way around, pick up on some nice jobs and get involved in fun teams. I have been able to experience the atmosphere at IRIO and the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Economics, and I must admit that the IRIO atmosphere is much warmer and happier. I am committed to Mitrany because I think we underestimate the power of us IRIO alumni, and the bond we had and have. IRIO students are motivated to make a change and to see the world differently, and it is so powerful if we can keep this alive even after our studies. You never know what opportunity might be around the corner or pops up with a drink in your hand with a fellow alumni.
